Yemi Alade, Angelique Kidjo “Shekere” (Official Video)

Angelique Kidjo joins Yemi Alade in the beautiful display of African culture for “Shekere” visuals.

Yemi and the Beninese legend Angelique Kidjo connected for “Shekere” off Yemi’s latest album Woman of Steel.

Both Alade and Kidjo deliver feel-good lyrics in English and Yoruba over the song’s string-filled production. The upbeat song also includes interpolations of Kidjo’s 1996 classic “Wombo Lombo.”

The Ovie Etseyatse directed music video is a celebration of African cultures throughout the continent. It opens with a shot of Maasai warriors and continues on to highlight various African cultures through dance and attire. Yemi is seen in various African prints, while Kidjo models an attention grabbing Zulu headdress.

Angelique took home her fourth Grammy last month, during which she gave an acceptance speech dedicating the victory to Nigerian artist Burna Boy and about the importance of supporting the new generation of artists emerging from the continent.
